Report shows BSC graduates fill needed roles in ND and beyond

According to Bismarck State College’s recently completed 2014-15 First Destination Report, 98 percent of Bismarck State College career and technical program graduates are employed or continuing their education.
Out of the 40 programs reporting, 30 report 100 percent placement among students surveyed. Additionally, many of those graduates are feeding the pipeline of workers urgently needed in key industries in North Dakota. Among respondents from our nursing, HVAC, medical administrative assistant, engineering technology, automotive collision technology, and agriculture programs, 89% are employed in their line of work in the state.
From a salary perspective, wages are healthy across areas, but particularly for our energy graduates where a high end wage is reported at $73.56 per hour. Management graduates reported a high end of $57.69 per hour.
BSC’s online-only programs have a national reach and reputation highlighted by the report. Many of the Energy Management, Electrical Power Technology, Nuclear Energy and Electrical Transmission System Technology graduates attended BSC from their homes across the country, and are employed both in and out of North Dakota after graduation.
“This report shows us that our graduates are well prepared with skills needed by employers. They graduate and get hired in fields they want to be in,” said BSC President Larry C. Skogen. “Our students who transfer on for more education also are very successful, and both realms reflect the quality of education provided by our committed faculty.”
The BSC 2015 First Destination Report is compiled each year based on degrees earned by the previous year’s graduates. Statistics for this year’s report were based on information gathered from 520 of 688 graduates from summer 2014, fall 2014, and spring 2015, with a survey response rate of 76%.
