Engineering Technology vs. Engineering
Engineering Technology vs. Engineering
Bismarck State College offers programs in both Engineering Technology and Engineering (transfer). If you are considering a career in the engineering field, you may be unfamiliar with the differences between these two programs.
Engineering Technology programs train students in the practical and hands-on application of math, science, and engineering principles. Engineering Technologists are sometimes described as the "doers" or "implementers" of engineering. The emphasis of the education is to learn current knowledge and practice and apply that knowledge and practice in the office or in the field.
On the other hand, Engineering programs emphasize the theoretical and innovative application of math, science, and engineering principles. Engineers often design solutions to new or existing problems. The emphasis of the education is to learn the theory and be able to apply that theory to solve problems.
Which One is Best for Me?
The answer to this question depends on your goals for your degree. Engineering Technology graduates are usually employed immediately after graduating from BSC, whereas Engineering students transfer to a four-year institution to complete their degrees.
