U.S. News ranks BSC in top Midwest Regional Colleges
Published:
Sep 14 2016
Tweet
Bismarck State College was ranked number seven in the top ten public regional colleges in the Midwest in the recently released
2016 U.S. News and World Report Best College Rankings
.
The North Dakota University System colleges dominated the annual ranking, with BSC joining Valley City State, Dickinson State and Mayville State in the top seven public regional colleges.
“BSC’s focus is on student success. The students are why we are here. This ranking drives home that the commitment of our faculty and staff along with the public support we receive make this a great place for students to launch themselves into the world,” says Larry C. Skogen, BSC President & Interim Provost & VP for Academic and Student Affairs.
In the
U.S News
rankings, accredited U.S. colleges and universities are grouped according to their mission and location. The grouped institutions are then compared based on data related to academic excellence from up to 16 areas. The regional college category focuses on undergraduate educational institutions that grant fewer than 50 percent of their degrees in liberal arts disciplines, and includes two-year colleges like BSC that also offer some bachelor's degree programs.
Criteria include admission acceptance rates, academic profile of entering freshmen, freshman-to-sophomore retention, student/faculty ratio, class sizes, graduation rates, alumni-giving rates, and assessments by administrators at peer institutions, among others.
The “Regional Colleges in the Midwest” category includes 94 colleges and universities, with 18 public institutions, in 12 states.
The rankings are published online at
