‘Walk Across North Dakota’ book starts week of BSC events
Published: Apr 21 2016
The fourth week of Bismarck State College ArtsQuest includes two concerts, an art exhibit reception and a book event celebrating the recent publication of “The Walk Across North Dakota.”
Walk co-leaders, Gwen Hoberg and Jeremy Bold, lead off the week Monday, April 25, with an author talk, video presentation and book signing from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in LEA Hall. The event is co-sponsored by the BSC Visiting Writers Series.
“The Walk Across North Dakota” was written by five North Dakotans who grew up in Bismarck – brothers Tyler Bold and Jeremy Bold, siblings Richard Hoberg and Gwen Hoberg, and Bruce Ringstrom. Over two summers, they walked from Beach to Fargo to test physical limits and to explore what it means to be from North Dakota.
Their story includes journal excerpts, meditations and essays, maps, profiles of walkers and people they met, and animals saw or heard.
On Tuesday, April 26, the BSC chamber ensembles are in concert at 7:30 p.m. in Sidney J. Lee Auditorium. Performing are the Woodwind Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble and Guitar Ensemble against a backdrop of student art published in Figments of Imagination literary journal.
On Wednesday, April 28, BSC holds its annual Juried Student Art Exhibition open house and artist reception from 4 to 7 p.m. in the second floor Gannon Gallery of LEA Hall.
On Friday, April 29, the BSC Jazz Ensemble performs a swinging, contemporary program at 7:30 p.m. in Sidney J. Lee Auditorium with special guest, Big Al’s Big Band.
All events are free to the public during ArtsQuest, BSC’s month-long celebration of the arts. For more information, visit bismarckstate.edu/artsquest.
