th
Blizzard Bluegrass weekend of concerts Jan. 12-13 with featured band High Plains Tradition.
The Denver-based band takes the stage with opening act Cotton Wood at 7 p.m. both nights in Sidney J. Lee Auditorium at Bismarck State College.
Since forming in 1987, High Plains Tradition has played in venues all across the United States. Their travels have also taken them top play festivals and events in Canada as well as four tours in Ireland. Their music is rooted in the “traditional” bluegrass with a flair of their own. Members are Doug Elrick, mandolin; Steve Gilmore, guitar; Mark Leslie, banjo; Bobbie Vickery, fiddle; and Kenny Pabst, bass.
High Plains Tradition will offer a bluegrass technique workshop for fiddle, guitar, mandolin, bass, dobro and banjo on Saturday, Jan. 13, from 2 to 4 p.m. in BSC’s Leach Music Center 177, Schafer Hall. Fee is $5 with no pre-registration.
Tickets go on sale at 6:15 p.m. both nights in the lobby of the auditorium. General admission tickets are $15 and can be purchased in advance in Bismarck at Eckroth Music, Jacobson Music, and Night Life Music; in Mandan at Cappuccino on Collins; in Washburn at Java Rose and Chase Drug, and in Center at Corner Express.
