FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
A 16 year old male is in police custody after an incident that put Bismarck State College into lockdown today.
An individual posted a threat on Twitter to shoot up a school library. This threat was seen by a person who reported it to the FBI. The FBI got involved with the investigation and pinged the phone from where the threat was made. That ping showed the phone being on the Bismarck State College campus.
Because the threat specifically mentioned a library, the first officers on the scene concentrated their search in the area of the B.S.C. library.
Officers from the Bismarck Police Department, with assistance from the North Dakota Highway Patrol, Burleigh County Sheriff’s Department, B.C.I., F.B.I. and North Dakota Parole/Probation controlled traffic and began a search of the campus floor by floor. As floors were cleared, students and faculty were released.
While this was going on, through the investigation we were able to determine the name of the person we believed had the phone from where the threat was posted.
At 4:04 p.m. the suspect, who was northbound on U.S. 83, was taken into custody by a trooper from the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
The search of the B.S.C. campus was concluded. The case is under investigation.
