The Conversations at BSC series at Bismarck State College continues Sunday, March 13, with a program on “Buffalo Bill Cody and the Invention of the West.”

Discussion between BSC President Larry C. Skogen and BSC humanities scholar Clay Jenkinson begins at 3 p.m. in the fourth floor Bavendick Stateroom of BSC’s National Energy Center of Excellence.

Countless book and movie westerns have emerged about what has become known as the American West, including more than 100 books and 400 short stories by North Dakota’s Louis L’Mour. Much of the tradition originates in the life of William Frederick (Buffalo Bill) Cody, a scout, bison hunter and showman.

Cody created his Wild West Show in 1883, the year Theodore Roosevelt came to North Dakota. This conversation explores Cody’s life and achievement, his relations with Native Americans and their depiction in his spectacles.

Programs are unrehearsed and emphasize the 360-degree perspective of the humanities lens. Live video/audio streaming is available at bismarckstate.edu/community/live/LiveStreaming/. Audio alone is available on The Myx at bscmysticmedia.com/.

The series continues May 1 and June 12. Funding is provided by Bismarck State College and the BSC Foundation.
