Bismarck State College is hosting an event today, Nov. 19, to encourage middle school students to consider careers in the energy industry.  BSC coordinated the event with the Bismarck Public Schools as part of a larger effort to inspire students to pursue education leading to STEM careers.

Approximately 55 girls currently in 8th grade from various middle schools in Bismarck will visit the National Energy Center of Excellence to view the state-of-the-art laboratory equipment in the building and participate in hands-on activities relating to energy programs offered at BSC.  They also will have visit with women in the STEM fields -- those working in the industry, BSC energy faculty, and students enrolled in energy programs.

Activities include testing samples from a distillation column, examining the properties of water, learning about power generation and renewable energy, and using machinery involved in mechanical maintenance.

When: November 19, 2015 9 a.m.-Noon
