The last discussion in the "And Justice for All" BookTalk series at Bismarck State College takes place Sunday, March 4, from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Library-English-Art building (LEA Hall) at 1400 Schafer Street. The final book in the series is “Men We Reaped: A Memoir” by two-time National Book Award winner Jesmyn Ward.

Ward's memoir shines a light on the community she comes from– the small town of DeLisle, Mississippi. Here, in the span of four years, she lost five young men dear to her to drugs, accidents, murder, and suicide, including her beloved brother. Their deaths were seemingly unconnected, yet their lives had been connected, by identity and place. As Ward dealt with these losses, she came to a staggering truth: These young men died because of who they were and the place they were from, because certain disadvantages breed a certain kind of bad luck.

Dr. AnnMarie Kajencki, BSC professor of English, leads the discussion of this carefully crafted memoir that weaves together past, present, and future and successfully reveals how an epidemic of racism and economic inequality has affected and continues to haunt the author’s family and community.

Books are available at local libraries and booksellers. Discussions are open to all. For more information, call 224-5450 or visit bsc.libguides.com/booktalk/2018.
