Bismarck State College named top team for the American Heart Walk

Fifteen employees from Bismarck State College (BSC) joined nearly 300 Bismarck-Mandan-area residents for the American Heart Association’s Heart Walk on May 14. The annual event raises funds to fight heart disease and stroke, the two leading causes of death in the world. Team BSC raised $3,000 and was deemed the number one fundraising organization for the 2016 Bismarck Heart Walk. This year’s Bismarck event raised more than $60,000.
“As a community college it is our goal and our responsibility to be involved in and to support our community,” said Juanita Lee, Team BSC Heart Walk team chair. “We had employees very willing to participate because they have people close to them battling heart related issues every day and we had others who just felt strongly about helping the cause because the statistics are so startling.”
The top five fundraisers from BSC were Dee Bertsch (Athletics), Janell Campbell (President’s Office) Mary Eisenbraun (Student Finance), Margie Lawler (Safety & Security), and Jennifer Klesalek (Information Technology, Solutions and Services). Other team members included: Anna Anderson (Faculty), Cherie Beck (Admissions), Deborah Cave (Faculty), Daphne Hauck (Distance Learning), Mark Holkup (Faculty), Sheri Landenberger (Admissions), DeAnna Smith (Allied Health), Rita Lindgren (Human Resources), Laurie Niblick (Academic Records), Deb Sandness (BSC Bookstore) and Juanita Lee (College Relations).
The non-competitive, one-mile and three-mile walk or run included teams of employees from more than 20 local companies, along with friends and family members of all ages. Heart Walk participants also enjoyed a Heart Festival, which included educational activities, healthy snacks, and a Kids Zone with fun activities for children.
