Choral concert set for April 15 at BSC

Published: Apr 06 2016
The Bismarck State College Music program presents its choirs in a “Pops Plus Classical” concert with the BSC Jazz Combo Friday, April 15, at 7:30 p.m. in Bavendick Stateroom, National Energy Center of Excellence.
The BSC Chamber Singers and Concert Choir perform several popular numbers arranged by students and conductor Andrew Miller. He scored “Beat It” by Michael Jackson for the Concert Choir.
For the Chamber Singers, student Andrew Wickenheiser arranged “Hello” by Adele with a solo by Natasha Sickler, and Neil Diamond’s “Cherry, Cherry.”  Student Sarah Bauman arranged Sarah McLachlan’s “Arms of the Angel” and the solo by Elizabeth Schuh.
These choral groups also will perform selections by 16th century composer Palestrina, modern composer Eric Whitacre, Daniel Gawthrop, and David Larson, a BSC alumnus.
The Women’s Ensemble under director Clyde Bauman performs “Fever,” a song made famous by North Dakotan Peggy Lee and accompanied by the BSC Jazz Combo. Their program also includes a French folk song and a spiritual.
Dawn Hagerott directs the Men’s Ensemble in a witty arrangement of “Star Wars” that combines John Williams’ movie score with the characters. The men also sing “Stars I Shall Find,” a song set to a poem by Sara Teasdale.
A reception with refreshments follows the concert, which is presented at no charge during ArtsQuest, BSC’s month-long celebration of the arts.
