Bismarck State College, with support of the ND National Guard, is hosting the 3rd Annual Community Fit Fair, Sept. 8 from 4–7 p.m. at the Shiloh Christian School Athletic Complex in Bismarck.

The Community Fit Fair was developed in an effort to raise awareness of wellness organizations available in our communities, focus on suicide and substance abuse prevention, as well as provide an opportunity for our military members to reconnect with the community.

Participants of all ages are welcome to participate in four categories:
  • Individual, Competitive APFT
  • Four-person Team, Competitive APFT
  • Individual, Non-competitive mini-APFT
  • Youth Bootcamp (ages 7 and up)
The competitive Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) is comprised of two minutes of sit-ups, two minutes of push-ups and a two-mile run or 2.5 mile walk. Participants are scored based on the number of sit-ups and push-ups completed, plus the time recorded for the run/walk using the same fitness test guidelines that our Army National Guard Soldiers use. This event can also be done as a four-person team and individual scores will be tallied to determine the highest cumulative team score.

New this year is a non-competitive mini APFT and participants complete one minute of push-ups, one minute of sit-ups and a one-mile run or walk. Also new this year is the Youth Bootcamp for ages seven and up. Youth will participate in a series of Army-related fun challenges and obstacles led by soldiers.

ND National Guard soldiers will be staffing each station, pumping up competitors in true Army fashion, to "be the best you can be."

The general public is invited to visit a wide variety of community wellness booths and activities even if they are not participating in the events. The booths showcase agencies involved in wellness and fitness promotion.

Registration is now open and free at bismarckstate.edu/fitfair and event updates will be posted on the Community Fit Fair Facebook event page. For more information call 701-333-3266.
