Concert Nov. 3 features BSC choirs and vocal ensembles

Bismarck State College choirs and vocal ensembles perform in concert Tuesday, Nov. 3, at 7:30 p.m. in Sidney J. Lee Auditorium of Schafer Hall.
The Concert Choir, under the direction of BSC choral director Andrew Miller, performs a variety of music from Bill Wither's famous "Lean on Me," to a traditional spiritual of "Rock-a-ma-soul, and a piece by the world's most celebrated living choral composer, Eric Whitacre's "Sleep."
BSC's Chamber Singers, an ensemble of select, auditioned vocalists, performs the haunting atmospheric "The Spheres," a lively German folk song, a Renaissance motet, and a modern double-choir composition composed by Miller called "Hodie Christus Natus Est."
The Women's Ensemble, directed by Clyde Bauman, sings Aaron Copeland's minstrel-styled "Ching-a-Ring-Chaw" and "I Will Be Earth," a six-song setting of lyrics by American poet Mae Swenson. The Men's Ensemble performs several works under the direction of Dawn Hagerott.
"Overall, this is going to be a concert to top the charts in musical variety, artistry, and top-notch quality singing," Miller said. "The BSC Music program is currently at its strongest ever in enrollment of both non-music majors performing in ensembles, and music majors, who have chosen BSC to pursue a career as a musician, music educator or audio technician."
