Bismarck State College invites students, faculty and community members to attend the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and People (MMIWP) Summit on Monday, May 5, from 1 to 5 p.m. (CST) in the Advanced Technology Center Live Event Venue, 1220 Schafer St., on the BSC campus.

This free, public event is a call to action—shifting the conversation around MMIWP from awareness to meaningful advocacy and justice.

The summit features a keynote address by Connie Walker, Pulitzer Prize and Peabody Award-winning investigative journalist and one of TIME’s 100 Most Influential People of 2024. Through her decades-long work uncovering Indigenous stories and systemic violence, Walker brings vital insight into the crisis of Missing and Murdered Indigenous People. The event emcee will be Prairie Rose Seminole, filmmaker, educator and advocate for Native visibility and policy change.

Event highlights include:
  • Ceremonial opening and introductions
  • Keynote speaker Connie Walker – Investigative journalist, “Stolen” podcast host and  advocate for justice and reconciliation
  • Law enforcement and legislative panel featuring Brad Hawk, McLean County Sheriff JR Kerzmann, North Dakota Representative Jayme Davis and former United States Senator Heidi Heitkamp
  • Families and advocates panel featuring voices from those directly impacted by the MMIWP crisis and leaders in community-led recovery and justice efforts
  • Special guests the Lake Region Singers and United Tribes Technical College (UTTC) Color Guard
This summit is part of Embracing BSC and the Bringing Humanities to Life initiative, and aims to amplify voices, foster healing and inspire lasting action.
