A short time remains to register for the Energy Generation Conference in Bismarck, the upper Midwest’s premier training and exhibitor event for those involved in the energy industry.

The conference runs Jan. 26-28 at the Bismarck Event Center. Online pre-registration fee is $40 per day and should be in Wednesday, Jan. 20, to avoid additional cost. See egcnd.com for details.

The Exhibitor Showcase, the only event open to the public, runs 4:30 to 6 p.m. Jan. 26, and features more than 300 vendors.

Coordinated by the Continuing Education, Training & Innovation Department at Bismarck State College, the 37th annual conference focuses on skill development and new energy technologies, plus networking for workers and suppliers.

Pre-conference and concurrent break-out sessions are scheduled Jan. 26-28 in key areas such as engineering, electrical, environmental, instrumentation, mechanical, operations, safety, support services and professional development.

Workshop speakers are technical experts and industry professionals from across North America. Topics include several sessions on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean Power Plan and related subjects.

Speakers are discussing impact on the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) electric power system, regional considerations of the Clean Power Plan, and carbon reduction options for lignite-fired plants. Experts are convening in an environmental roundtable to address coal-fired power industry compliance options.

One session will demonstrate how the North American Coal-Falkirk Mining Company became the first mine in the United States to receive an exemption from the Federal Aviation Administration for drone use.

The EGC planning committee hosts 75 high school students from around the state at the conference to learn first-hand about the energy industry.
