Hess Corporation donated a truckload of equipment to Bismarck State College today, furthering a partnership that has strengthened BSC’s National Energy Center of Excellence programs by providing state-of-the-art equipment and hands-on opportunities to students.  The donation of oil- and gas-related equipment is valued at $192,491, and brings the total support from Hess to more than a quarter of a million dollars in the past three years.

“We welcome the opportunity to assist BSC students with a first-class educational experience,” said Stacey Nachbaur, Operations Manager. “We have built a great relationship with BSC, and we are proud that their students continue to benefit from our ongoing partnership. We are committed to helping students prepare for careers in the North Dakota energy industry.”

The donated equipment will be used by students in BSC’s energy programs, and provides students with the opportunity to learn in the classroom with the same equipment that is used by the energy industry.  This donation also will be used to provide matching funds for the North Dakota Department of Commerce Workforce Enhancement Grants.

Pieces of equipment donated include:
  • Compressors
  • Valves and regulators
  • Booster pump for oil
"Graduates from BSC’s energy programs have been in high demand from energy employers,” said Dr. Larry Skogen, BSC President.  “The donation from Hess will contribute towards our delivery of a high-quality education to BSC students so that they are prepared to meet the needs of their future employers.”

Students are also able to take part in internship and job shadow programs at Hess, while Hess employees are able to come to BSC for operator training.  Representatives from Hess also serve on various advisory boards for Bismarck State College, ensuring that curriculum is up-to-date and accurately reflects the needs of industry.

“Hess has served as an excellent partner in our energy education, and we appreciate their generosity and exceptional support of our programs,” said Kari Knudson, BSC Foundation executive director and BSC vice president of college advancement.
