Description
This is a program for those who would like to work with youth in a middle or high school academic setting as the key assistant to the classroom teacher. It provides preparation for becoming certified as a Title I Paraprofessional, the certification that is required in the highest needs schools (low SES, low achieving). This credit-bearing coursework can be applied to the BAS in Foundations of Teaching at BSC and can be applied to licensing programs in Secondary Education at other institutions (i.e., Math, Science, Social Studies, Business, Trades).
Students enrolled in this certificate program can select to complete the Title I Paraprofessional and ND Substitute License sequence, and/or complete either or both of the bachelor's degrees at BSC in Foundations of Teaching (BAS) and a Secondary Education teaching licensure program at a partner institution (B.S.Ed.).
Preparation
This program will lead to:
- The Title I Paraprofessional Certificate of Completion by the ND Department of Public Instruction (federally recognized).
- A North Dakota Substitute Teacher License that is conferred by the ND Education Standards & Practice Board.
Requirements
Students who complete the curriculum requirements receive a Program Certificate in Education Foundations - Secondary.
