Program Description
The Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) program in Foundations of Teaching prepares students for leadership as a Title I Paraprofessional and as a North Dakota Substitute Teacher, two highly sought-after roles in today’s P-12 schools. Students will gain a deep, working knowledge of the foundations of teaching, which includes the development of teacher tenacity. The program emphasizes the vital role of the Title I Paraprofessional and classroom teacher, the integration of an ethical core in response to difficulties seen in today’s classrooms, and the building of professional tenacity to provide children with consistency and excellence in teaching. The program empowers future educators to positively impact the lives of countless P-12 students.
Preparation
Students may enroll in the Foundations of Teaching BAS program directly. Student who are enrolling in this program as a transfer applicant may have earned either a Certificate in Education Foundations (either Early Childhood/Elementary Ed or Secondary Ed) from BSC or an associate in arts or associate in science in an Education Pathway (Early Childhood, Elementary, or Secondary) at BSC. The Certificate and/or associate degree stack directly into this Foundations of Teaching BAS. This BAS program can be completed simultaneously with a teacher licensing program at one of BSC’s partner institutions.
Program Requirements
This is a direct-admit program. Students should have a strong interest in working with children or youth and want to make a difference in their lives.
Career Opportunities
The roles of Title I Paraprofessional, Substitute Teacher, and Classroom Teacher are in the highest demand, ranking above the need for healthcare workers.
