Foundations of Teaching (BAS)  +  Teaching Licensure (B.S.Ed) Partnership

Earn Your Full Teaching License While at Bismarck State College!
 
Bismarck State College and Valley City State University have partnered up for students! Through this collaborative program, students can complete two degrees simultaneously while remaining at BSC. The partnership combines the strengths and resources of both institutions to provide a high-quality academic experience that ultimately leads to teacher licensure in North Dakota.

Students benefit from BSC’s hands-on approach to learning, with practical classroom experiences built into the program from the start. The program is designed to be affordable, allowing students to complete their education at a lower cost while accessing strong academic and student support services.

Program Highlights

  • Practicums every semester – immediately apply classroom learning to real experience in the schools
  • Title I Paraprofessional training embedded in teacher preparation
    • Students can be employed throughout their program
  • Two degrees in four* years
    • *depends on number of credits taken each semester, chosen pace, chosen licensing program

How to Get Started

#1. Meet with Admissions 701-224-5400 / 1-800-445-5073  /  BSC.Admissions@bismarckstate.edu
 
#2. Meet with your Advisor in the Mystic Advising and Counseling Center (MACC). Together, you will:
  • Apply for BSC’s Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) + Apply to VCSU’s Bachelor of Science in Education (B.S.Ed)
  • Write out your plan of study, including course selection, program milestones, and the collaborative enrollment process with VCSU 
  • Connect with your VCSU Advisor
  • Declare Foundations of Teaching (BAS) as their major at BSC
  • Declare a specific B.S.Ed licensing major at VCSU – many to choose from (e.g., Elementary Ed; Math, English, History, Business Education; many more!)
  • ENROLL in BSC and VCSU courses right away!
