Advanced English (ESL)
This ESL class is for English learners with strong language skills who want to improve their fluency and accuracy. This course is intended for students who have achieved level 4 (early intermediate) or equivalent to completing the Adult Learning Center (ALC) English proficiency program.
Using the Future Advanced textbook and workbook, this course focuses on advanced grammar, vocabulary, and communication skills. Students will enhance their fluency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing through exercises, group discussions, and real-world scenarios. This class provides a challenging and supportive environment for students to further develop their English language proficiency and prepare for academic or professional success.

Prerequisites and/or Requirements
- Students should be able to demonstrate Level 4 (intermediate) English language proficiency.
- Commit to the full 16-week course
- Attendance policy: Any student missing more than two days or three hours of class time will be dropped, regardless of reason.
- Registration closes about a week before the class start date.
Length of Program
- 16 weeks (15 weeks of face-to-face sessions)
- Thursdays, 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM
Course Outcomes
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
- Communicate with increased fluency and accuracy in English.
- Apply intermediate and advanced grammar and vocabulary in speaking and writing.
- Strengthen speaking, listening, reading, and writing through practice and real world scenarios.
Course Investment
- $250 course fee (includes course materials)
Financial assistance for the full fee is provided through a grant provided by U.S. Bank for the first 20 students.
Class enrollment is limited to 20 students; waiting lists begin once the class is full
Location
Classes are held on the campus of Bismarck State College; the building and room are to be determined.
Cancellation Policy
Cancellation requests must be sent to the BSC Continuing Education office at least three working days prior to the start of class.
