As artificial intelligence (AI) and data centers continue to grow, so does the demand for energy to support these emerging technologies.

On Thursday, Nov. 5, Bismarck State College is hosting industry and academic experts for “Feeding AI’s Energy Appetite,” a panel discussion exploring the challenges and opportunities this growth presents for the energy sector. The event will take place at 11 a.m. (CT) in the Basin Electric Auditorium inside BSC’s National Energy Center of Excellence, 1200 Schafer St., on the BSC campus. It is free and open to the public.

BSC President Brian Kalk will moderate the discussion featuring experts from the University of North Dakota Energy & Environmental Research Center (EERC) and BSC:
  • Chris Martin, Distinguished Engineer, Advanced Thermal Systems, EERC
  • Amanda Livers, Assistant Director for Integrated Subsurface Projects, EERC
  • Daisy Selvaraj, Principal Power Systems Engineer, EERC
  • Nick See, Assistant Teaching Professor of Cybersecurity, BSC
Panelists will discuss the future energy demands, the role of diverse energy sources in powering AI infrastructure, and how North Dakota can help meet these needs. The conversation will also highlight emerging industries and career opportunities at the intersection of energy and AI, offering valuable insights for students preparing to enter an evolving workforce.
