Cost of Internship
Credits are billed at the in-state tuition rate and are based on a student’s major, plus college/student fees. Internship credits are not covered under the tuition cap.
Students are responsible for paying their credits, unless covered by the employer or a third party. A growing number of employers are making the investment in Bismarck State College students by paying the cost of the students’ credits. However, this is not a requirement of the employer, and it will depend on each individual’s circumstances.
Financial Aid
The financial aid office reviews a student's eligibility for federal financial aid based on the number of enrolled credits. If the student is enrolled for credits in addition to their internship experience, the internship credits will count towards total enrollment for financial aid awarding purposes.
Types of federal aid that students may be awarded includes the Pell grant, Direct Loans, and SEOG. Federal work study may not be awarded if an internship is paid. Students who graduate from a North Dakota high school may receive consideration for ND State Grant. Eligibility for federal and state aid is only determined after the student has completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa.
Grading of Internships
Students are graded on a pass or fail basis.
Internship experiences are intended to give students an opportunity to test a career path and do not impact their GPA. Student will receive an incomplete grade if the objectives in the syllabus are not met.
An incomplete grade must be resolved by midterm of the following semester, or it will be converted into a failing grade.
Causes for a student to receive a failing grade.
- The student does not complete the objectives of the internship.
- The student ends employment early without due cause.
- The student is terminated from employment.
- Drop or change internship credits.
