Artist John Offutt brings his Mobile Glassblowing Studio to the Bismarck State College campus April 27-28 as part of BSC ArtsQuest.

Offutt’s glass blown vases, gourds, fish and bowls can be found in museums, galleries and collections throughout the region. Inspired by plumb bobs, anchors, bubbles in beer, kites, and icicles, this award-winning artist will demonstrate the dramatic, fire-fueled art of glassblowing on campus during a two-day residency at BSC. Demonstrations and discussions will be held at 10 and 11 a.m. and 1, 2, 3, and 4 p.m. on Thursday and Friday on the west side of Skogen Hall. Sitting is available and items will be available for purchase. Admission is free.

Offutt is the artist/owner of the House of Mulciber Glass Studio. Previously, he was an instructor and studio coordinator with the glass program at Minnesota State University Moorhead, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in studio art with a concentration on glass and ceramics in 1991. His experience was bolstered by a residency at Smoky Hills Artisan Community in Osage, Minn.; as a studio assistant at the Penland School of Crafts in Penland, N.C.; and through earning a Master of Fine Arts degree in the glass program with the College of Art and Design at Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 1996, where he was also a shop steward and studio instructor.

Offutt and his Mobile Glassblowing Studio, an outreach program of North Dakota State University and funded in part by a grant from the Kellogg Foundation, travels around the state and country giving demonstrations on the art of glassblowing and providing a valuable resource to communities that would otherwise not have access.

Offutt's work can be found in the permanent collections of the Plains Art Museum and the Capital Gallery, North Dakota; Rourke Art Museum, Minnesota; Polk Museum of Art, Florida; Art Museum of Southeast Texas; Kentucky Art and Craft Foundation; Southern Illinois University; and Alamance County Arts Council, North Carolina.
